Screening checks contribute to creating safe environments for children and other vulnerable people. South Australian and Commonwealth policy and legislation mean many employees and volunteers must have checks done as part of their roles.
In South Australian, the Department of Human Services Screening Unit provides checks to employers in businesses, government and non-government organisations, individuals and volunteer coordinators.
The Screening Unit does five types of check. The checks are a risk assessment. The Screening Unit does not decide if an individual is suitable for employment or volunteer work – it’s up to the organisation to decide if someone is right for a role.
